These are the pieces I will be listing on my Etsy site this week. I am trying what I am calling a “Geisha Set”. A set with 3 kimono, 3 obi, 3 haori, and 1 nagajuban. I will be listing it at a 30% discount from a single listing price.

These are the kimonos, haoris and obis I will be putting into my Etsy store this week.They include a tsumugi set for men.

175 kimonos

I just got back from an auction in Kyoto. Want to know what 175 kimonos and assorted Japanese textiles look like? The quality was much higher than the last time I went and the prices were such that we had to really control ourselves so as to stay in our 175 promise. I will be posting these on my Etsy site starting next week.

I will be going back to this auction at the beginning of August. Anyone want to go? I am not sure I can take a guest but if anyone is interested in going I will ask. The setup would be I pick you up from Kyoto station and we go to the site together. I would be bidding on things you want and that I want. You don’t need to understand Japanese but you need to be very fast, able to decide within seconds what your maximum bid is. Most lots go by within 20-30 seconds, some faster.  You also need to understand it is an auction so there is competition for pieces and sometimes a back and forth in which your winning bid may not be enough.  This is an excellent chance for anyone who sells kimono. I will be asking for a 30,000 yen fee. All other fees you will have to pay. The auction fee is 2,000 yen which includes a non-vegetarian lunch, unlucky for me. If you buy 150 pieces that works out to 200 yen per piece. I can guarantee you will be satisfied if you go if you think the pieces I put into my Etsy store in the coming 8 weeks are nice. There are a lot of older pieces at the auction and there were 4 furisode for bargain prices we didn’t bid on that my wife and I are still regretting. If you are interested please let me know. New Japanese textiles, 6-4-2011

Here are the pieces I will be posting in my Etsy store this week.  These are the final kimono of my last buying outing in Kyoto. The quality of  the work in that auction is very nice and there are a lot of older pieces in it. The first picture in this series is a piece of fabric from a 3 piece set that has writing on the back indicating it is from the Meiji period, given as a gift to a temple to benefit the donor’s parents. I will be going to Kyoto again on Monday the 6th. to buy again at a dealers auction. The kimono that are offered at that auction aren’t as old as the auction  I bought this week’s work from.
